Why start an Atheist Society? |
|
I was inspired to start this Association by a recent conversation I had with a colleague. My colleague asked “I presume you don’t go to church because you cannot be bothered”. On reflection I think this could not be further from the truth, instead being an Atheist is a choice for me, as it is for many people who work in the NHS. When I started this association I hoped that it would encourage Medical Professionals to realize that being atheist or agnostic can be a positive and considered view. I felt that particularly those starting out in the profession as medical students should be presented with this viewpoint that you do not have to be religious to have morals. The aims that the society was founded with were; To provide the opportunity for education, debate and discussion regarding humanist views on topics relating to the practice of Medicine.
Currently the association is only starting out but we intend to hold talks on matters regarding religion in Medicine. These talks will be aimed towards medical students but open to all ages of medical practicioners.
If you think you would be interested in attending or even getting involved please email the address below for regular updates. |
